Eichler's Atrium in Sunnyvale, CA
The atrium is an important feature in many of the Eichler’s homes, but here it was an unwelcoming desert of concrete that would flood during winter.
The concrete was replaced by bluestone slabs and white gravel while new underground draining pipes were installed to collect the roof water solving the flooding issue.
Two chairs and a coffee table make the space usable, while the sound of trickling water from the simple fountain is relaxing and can be also heard indoor from the living area.
The entrance door and one wall were painted in a warm color that is reflected both in the planting and some accessories indoors.
