After remodeling the kitchen/dining room and the master bedroom, both opening onto the backyard, the Client wanted to extend the same contemporary style to the garden making it more suitable to host large gatherings of friends and family.

The design features: a Japanese Ofuro partially sunk into the wooden deck that runs the length of the house; a dining area; a bar; a fire pit; a water feature and various seating areas. 

Shading the hot, South-facing garden without blocking light into the house was another important requirement that we satisfied by keeping the shade structures away from the house.
